From HAWG member, Institute for Justice & Democracy in Haiti:

An online petition has been launched, calling for justice for Davidtchen Siméon, a 23-year-old youth organizer with the popular progressive organization MOLEGHAF ((Mouvement de Liberté, Égalité des Haïtiens pour la Fraternité), who was killed on August 13, allegedly by an off-duty police officer.

Oxygene David, a leader of MOLEGHAF, was threatened at gunpoint by the same police officer a few days later.  Oxygene is currently in hiding, which takes him off of the streets and away from his important civic engagement work as a MOLEGHAF leader.

International advocacy like this petition raises the international profile of human rights defenders and helps keep them safe.  Please consider signing, posting and tweeting.

“We demand the immediate apprehension and prosecution for murder of police officer Jean Maxime and the other perpetrators and backers of the assassination of Mouvement de Liberté, Égalité des Haïtiens pour la Fraternité (MOLEGHAF) organizer Davidtchen Siméon on Saturday, August 13th, in Fort National, Port-au-Prince. And we demand that all measures within the government’s power be taken to protect David Oxygène and other labor, human rights and democracy activists from further acts of harassment, intimidation, and violence.”
